A female resident in her early 20s, who was studying in her bedroom at the time of the incident, sustained minor facial injuries, including a broken tooth, and was taken to the hospital, according to police.

Four firetrucks are currently on-site, working to stabilize the brick house’s structure.

“The impact of the vehicle caused extensive damage to the property, and the woman was taken to the hospital,” said Superintendent Robert Toynton.

“It’s remarkable that she survived and escaped with only minor injuries.”

Police have established a crime scene to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including whether speed played a role.

Superintendent Robert Toynton stated that officers would review nearby CCTV footage, which appears to show the vehicle traveling “at a speed likely exceeding the posted limit.”

“That will be a key focus of our investigation,” Toynton said.

“Our hearts go out to this family… The driver has tragically lost his partner in this crash, and regardless of the circumstances, it’s an absolute tragedy.”

Punchbowl Road remains closed in both directions at Belfield.
